PROBLEM PITCH ASSIGNMENT.

The problem that I chose to address for the Problem Pitch assignment is campus accessibility. UC's campus is not one that is easy to navigate for students with walking disabilities. Navigating our campus involves a lot of uphill and downhill walking, and stairs are often the most convenient route with those who are able to use them. If you are unable, it will take you much longer to get to and from different places on campus. I chose this issue because it is something I have seen be a hindrance to other students–causing them to miss or be late to class, cause themselves physical pain, or prevent them in participating from certain campus events/activities. I believe that this is unfair on a systematic level and should be addressed not just at UC, but at all institutions of higher education.
The stakeholders in this issue are students affected by this disadvantage, UC student leaders who are working on the issue, and also administrators in the Office of Accessibility Resources and elsewhere at the University. I am looking to interview two members of the aforementioned groups to get better insight as to how we can address this issue head-on, for the benefit of members of the Bearcat community.
The questions I asked my interviewee were:
1. What student groups are currently working on campus accessibility and what are some of the things that they're doing?
2. What is administration currently doing to address concerns about our campus's lack of accessibility?
3. What are some of the challenges that people are facing as they work on these initiatives?
4. What are some things that have been done on other campuses?
5. How feasible are some of these solutions for UC?
6. Who would be good to reach out to for learning more about accessibility at UC?
